Our version of the classic Marshall 1987 Lead 50W amplifier, circa 1969. Commonly referred to as the "Plexi," due to the plexiglass faceplate. Unlike it's predecessors the JTM45 & JTM50, the plexi used solid-state rectification and a larger power supply for slightly higher voltages, and tighter/punchier tone. Note: The power transformer included in this kit does have a 5V winding if you would like to use a tube rectifier. Like most 4 input Marshall style amps, you can bridge the the 2 channels for slightly more gain and control. The overdrive is rich, crunchy, and filled with subtle harmonic undertones. The tone of this circuit has been heard on countless rock albums from 60's through the 90's. Used by Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, Peal Jam, and countless more, the 50W plexi is truly a legend! The kit includes a High Quality, Handmade in USA Turret Board, Mallory 150 series (or Sprague Orange Drop) Coupling Capacitors, JJ and F&T Power Supply Caps, Sprague Atom Bias Supply Caps, High Quality Carbon Comp Resistors, Alpha Potentiometers, Marshall style Knobs, Belton Sockets, Cliff Jacks, NKK Impedance Selector, Fuse Holders, Power Cord, The Classictone Power Transformer (40-18033), Output Transformer(40-18025), and either the 40-18058 (3H), 40-18059 (20H) or 40-18032 (5H) chokes. All the transformers are made in Chicago! The power transformer has multiple primaries 120/220/230/240V. The output transformer has outputs for 4, 8, & 16 ohms. We will also include all the Cloth Push-Back or Teflon Wire you need to do the job. All you need are the Chassis & Head Cabinet!!! All Transformers are manufactured to our specifications by a Chicago Transformer company with over 50 years experience making high voltage Transformers for tube amplifiers.
